News and Updates

Research group is actively working in the area of bioprocess engineering with the vision “Bioengineering applications in efficient utilization of bio-resources for societal development”. Major research focus is towards utilization of agro-industrial waste and agricultural residues for valued products recovery including renewable chemicals, bioenergy and biochar though chemical/biochemical routes. Microbial energy and metabolites (particularly Vitamins, PUFA and amino acids) is another active branch of research at BEBL.

The group is also focused on concept of “waste to wealth” though biochemical engineering application such as, microalgae mediated wastewater treatment coupled energy recovery, anaerobic digestion for methane production, anaerobic digestion coupled pyrolysis, bioconversion of methane to methanol and bioprocessing of fruit/vegetable waste etc. Development of microalgae-bacteria engineered consortia based biofilm systems is in its full pace and shall be ready for pilot scale.
